The best thing about the World Cup
« on: 09 July 2010, 02:57:15 AM »

Has to be the amount of City players on display throughout the tournament. I can't help wondering if some statto somewhere (where's Anorak when you need him?) has come up with a club with the most players league table type thing, we have to be pretty in there... It seems almost every game, one or more of our players has been involved in it.

I've already said this elsewhere, and I know it's not big, and it's not clever, but....

Footie fans in Manchester are excited that they're going to be represented in the World Cup Final. City have Nigel de Jong and David Silva, and Utd have Howard Webb.

I'll get me coat.

And me hat, scarf and gloves.

To address your actual point, Pewpee, I read somewhere that we had 11 players in SA, but I don't know when that counts from. Erm, SWP, Joe Hart, Gaz Baz, NDJ, Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure, Jerome Boateng, Carlos Tevez, Vladi Weiss, David Silva, Robinho, RSC - that's 12. Can't think of anyone else.  So perhaps I read that before we signed David Silva. And I keep forgetting about Robinho - it doesn't feel like he's one of ours. I've no idea how other clubs might compare, though.

From Wookies, I think - City are the only club in the world to have a player bring home a gold, a silver and a bronze medal. Not shabby, or even Xavi.

Dutch thugs. Van Bommel - not just what's often been said the dirtiest player in Europe but I'm guessing the world. The Final didn't reflect very well on Holland or the world cup or on football in general, even though the result was right.

Thought Stekelenburg (sp?) did a good job for the cloggies but little else to reccommend the Duch as a footballing nation. Without wingeing Robben they'da been nowt but a disgrace, even he bottled it in the 1v1s. Shame, as I'd have liked them to do well based on their history. How did DeJong and Van B get to stay on the pitch?

My nephew did the bookies for £100 backing Spain so that was the best thing about the world cup for me.

Come on City  ;)
