Sven seems to want him, word is "the board" don't whoever "the board" are, and I doubt its Frank as I'm fairly sure he would back Sven.

I'm here - and hadn't seen that news before you posted it, so thanks.  I may not have shown up online as am on a frankly hopeless Russian connection, but I'm here.

The plus with this is that, even if we've not got the best deal in the world, he's a fucking mile better than what we currently have up front!

Nothing on the BBC or the official site...should give Sven something to think about either up front or on the right for Sunday's trip out of town.

Sky Sports News understands Benjani has completed his move to Manchester City from Portsmouth.

The Zimbabwe striker has been left in limbo after a switch to the City of Manchester Stadium failed to go through on transfer deadline day.

Portsmouth had agreed to sell their top scorer to City after sealing a deal to bring in Jermain Defoe from Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Benjani's move did not appear to be concluded before the closure of the transfer window, prompting an investigation from the Premier League.

Officials have been looking into the paperwork and it now seems the green light has been given for the deal to be ratified.

City boss Sven Goran Eriksson admitted on Monday that he expected the issue to be resolved by Tuesday at the latest.

Sources now suggest City have tied up the loose ends which prevented Benjani from securing his move last week.

Not made it online yet, Peter/Jase, it's the yellow scrolling ticker on Sky Sports News. They're saying it's for £8m.

Calm down, City have said now it's bollocks. Off mcfc.co.uk

However a club spokesman said: “No deal has been completed. Manchester City remain in contact with the football authorities regarding this potential transfer, and any further developments will be announced first on mcfc.co.uk.”

I am prepared to make a firm prediction that he'll either be signed, for some money, or else he won't.

He is a proven Premiership striker. if not a top drawer one. We haven't had one of those since AFC. I reckon that's quite a handy thing to have in your team. There's a possibility, should he sign, that he might do something we don't normally associate with City strikers, like score some goals. That would make a refreshing change.

They're saying he's got a dicky knee - does that mean he's just like a cut price Michael Owen who was allegedly our first target when this debacle began?

Have you heard the one about the one legged striker from Zimbabwe? You couldn't make up the stuff City have done over the years!
Title: Re: Ben ya knee
Post by: jds on 04 February 2008, 10:31:34 PM
Sounds like it means we're getting him for around £4m instead, and Benjani turned up so late in the hope we'd rush the medical through - City in decent transfer, not being taken for mugs shock?

So do we sing, "Cheap Michael Owen, you're just a cheap Michael Owen?"

No, better not.

We could hark back to the days of the 80's when City cringingly used to sing their own version of "Antmusic"

inna adam & his ants style "Ben Jarr Knee, Ben Jarr Knee, ridicule is nothing to be scared of..." but then again...

Bit imaginative for our zany South Stand isn't it? Bet it's "Benjani, wooooo, Benjani woooooo... He's comes from Zimbabwe, he plays for Man City...."

I'm just bitter cos my Kinkladze "tune" never caught on...

Thick Georgian accent trying a JCC salford one "Outside the takeaway, Saturday night, my mate Lee Won Pen asked me out for a fight, he was much fatter than a Manchester tart, he was a deft exponent of the penalty art..."

So if this Bendyerarm-ey deal does finally go through... Reckon he'll start the derby or be on the bench?

No reason for him not to start in my view - if he joins, he'll be the best striker we have by a distance.

I think he'll start if he doesn't miss the tram. And then miss the tram.Again.
I think he'll do well until the end of the season, lets face it he 's scored more than what we  have  have had shots on target.

Looks like a rather good deal negotiated by the club, £3.87M is probably £1.5M short of what he's worth in real terms (unlike the vastly over-rated £8M-£9M those clowns were talking) but there are clauses that could see them get more dosh...personally I'd make sure he doesn't play more than 24 times for us (unless he is awesome then sod the dosh get him played) so that they get nowt and then we sell him on for £4M just to rub 'arry's nose in it...

He's only worth the 25/50/75 game increments if we can't replace him for less - and we'll know by then (only 13 games left of this season) if he's a hit or miss.

In the very unlikely event that his goals get us 4th spot, 13 games for £3.75M will be a shrude piece of business.

Even a premiership donkey costs £5m these days.
The joint 3rd top Premiership goalscorer, as strong as an Ox and also at number 5 in the Actim stats table looks pretty damn good.
Same it's 'Cups for Cock-Ups' stuff for how it came to pass.

It's a shame we didn't get the right midfielder/wnger we needed too. Never mind.

Having not seen the game yet, it's hard for me to comment, but I'd welcome comments from those who have seen it.

Anyway, thinking about this game and why we seem tohave played so much better than for a long time, it occurred to me that we've adopted a 4-5-1 system all season without having a striker of any real quality who was suited also to playing the loan role up front.  For the first time yesterday, we had one in our line up.  Was that a crucial part of the difference?

I think the crucial factor was fate. Pure and simple. It was just meant to be. We were cool, calm and focused almost as if we knew what was going to happen. I like to think our behaviour during the silence and support throughout made a difference, unnerving united who were expecting to see things go the way it had been scripted. "They" came out fully expecting to win easily and seemed to run out of ideas very quickly after we scored. After the second went in it looked like it could go 4 or 5 if we'd have pushed it, we just clicked. It's also very reassuring to see the defence now have a goalie they have some faith in and to watch Hart grow with each game. The babylon never really rattled us, although that ugly little troll bastards shot just after our first goal could well have changed things were it not for Hart's brilliant stop.

I was so fuckin proud today.

Same impact for us as Mpenza had last season (once he got his fitness up to scratch) he added a whole new dimension to our play and it was stunning to watch. The lad is strong as an ox, Shields the ball really well but more importantly uses it rather well, his work off the ball on Sunday was also very impressive as was his Goater-esque ability to head the ball clear from our penalty area from corners. Still very early etc. etc. I'm hoping that this is the view of things to come and IF it is we'll give teams in the next 12 games plenty of things to think about...maybe that prized 4th place isn't that far away :o

I'm with you tragic, He seems to suit the system not play a system to suit the player type. If it works it could be a masterstroke and who knows how it will end up.

BTW do they have goats in Zimbabwe?

Feed the camel and he will score doesn't sound right to me lol

He is the dogs! 2nd/3rd best striker in the Prem for 3.78m! What a bargin!
I make no appologies for this statement. - He is the dogs.
My prediction is that:
[a] He will be our new hero. Hey he is already he scored against Man Ure!
He will score 1.25 goals every 2 games for us.
[c] Our attacking midfield will score lots more as a result of his ball holding-up ability.
[d] Some City fans will complain because he isn't a 'top' striker bought for tupence.

Ben - ja - knee (ah ooo)
Ban - ja - knee (ah ooo)
City rules is somthing to be scared of.

I've cut the song off 'cos it was a bit embarrassing and I didn't want it in my post....  ;)

I guess I'm in the d] category now, because a, b and c are taking a while to come true. 3 games in I just can't see him as anything other than a stop gap signing, the best we could get at the time. He's no goal machine. All these records are taken out of context - he's scored six of those goals in two games including that balmy game against Reading. The other was a hat trick against mighty Derby.
His career records are remarkably similar at Pomparse (19 goals in 70) as Auxerre (19 goals in 72) which looks about right, 1 every 3 or 4 games.

He's shit. He's the player who Portsmouth signed last seaosn, the one who's worse tha Bianchi, Mpenza and the rest. Fucking rubbish.

Stick him in the outs bin, Sven, and sign a footballer.

On the bench is fine...Caciedo is a more intriguing option at the moment and I would like to see him given a start at some stage before the end of the season. I was disappointed that Benjani went down for the pen, he could have scored without diving a big no need. Nice to see Mpenza back today (I still quite like him) and he and Caciedo did more in their "cameo's" than Benjani did...having said that the "service" to our forwards today was a complete and utter joke!
